The Africa Tourism Research Network (ATRN) has called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to reconsider the recent 400% increase in passport application fees, describing it as an “inimical action.”
In a statement released to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, the ATRN expressed concern over the significant hike in passport fees, particularly the increase from GH¢ 100 to GH¢ 500 for a 32-page passport application.
The Network emphasized that such a steep increase was “just too much to say the least” and deemed it impossible for ordinary citizens to afford the astronomical fee hike.
ATRN suggested that any adjustments to passport fees could have been implemented gradually over a period rather than in one significant increase.
