The Tatale Traditional Area has announced the passing of their Paramount Chief, Obore Gariba Yankosor II, who died after a short illness at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The chiefs and elders, along with the Council of Elders of the Nakpale Bore Palace and family elders, expressed their deep sorrow in a news release.
Born to Elder Gariba Tignanaba and Madam Tiriwah Gariba, Obore Gariba Yankosor II was 81 years old at the time of his death. He was enskinned in October 2001 by the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, and he served as the Paramount Chief for 23 years.
Described as a father figure to all ethnic groups in the area, Obore Gariba Yankosor II was revered for his unifying presence and commitment to peace, earning him three peace awards throughout his reign. His contributions extended beyond the local community as he was an active member of the Dagbon Traditional Council, the Northern Region House of Chiefs, and the National House of Chiefs.
His leadership and dedication were especially appreciated by Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, who admired him for his honesty, hard work, and passion for peace.
The late chief is survived by his wife and three adult children. Preparations for his burial and the installation of his regent are currently underway, as the community and his loved ones begin to commemorate his legacy.
