The family of Mawuena Trebarh, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), has announced her passing with deep sorrow. She passed away on the evening of Wednesday, 10th April 2024, following a recent period of illness. The family has requested privacy during this time of grief, and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mawuena Trebarh, known for her remarkable achievements in both the private and public sectors, was the trailblazing first female CEO of the GIPC. Her professional journey was marked by numerous milestones, including being the first female underground exploration geologist in the Ashanti Region.
Born in April 1971 in Ghana, Trebarh pursued her education at the University of Jos in Nigeria, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Mining. She furthered her studies with an MBA in Management and Strategic Planning at Bentley College in Massachusetts.
Throughout her career, Trebarh held key positions in various organizations, showcasing her expertise and leadership abilities. She served as the Corporate Services Executive at MTN Ghana and made significant contributions to the development of gold deposits in Ghana and other African countries during her tenure at Newmont Ghana Ltd.
Her passing has elicited an outpouring of condolences and empathetic messages from across Ghana. Many have expressed shock and sorrow, remembering her as a dedicated professional and a cherished member of the community. Trebarh is survived by her husband, Flt. Lt. Divine Trebarh, their daughter Katherine Joy, her father Prof Dumor, and her brother Dr Korshie Dumor.
Her death comes as another blow to her family, who are still mourning the loss of her brother, Komla Dumor, a decade ago. The pain of these losses is evident in the heartfelt tributes shared by her father, Prof Dumor, and the continued support from mourners during this difficult time.
