Phyllis Naa Koryo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, expressed shock and condemnation over the Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson‘s approach during the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.
The incident involved a shooting by MP Hawa Koomson, who admitted to firing warning shots in self-defence.
Hawa Koomson claimed she took the gun to the registration centre for personal protection after being informed of an alleged NDC conspiracy to bus non-residents for registration.
She stated, “I fired the warning shots myself. I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself.”
The MP accused Phyllis Naa Koryo of orchestrating the busing of non-residents to the constituency.
In response, Phyllis Naa Koryo denied the allegation, stating she did not know anyone busing people to registration centres.
She questioned Hawa Koomson’s actions, asking, “Who did she want to kill?”
The chaos at the Step To Christ registration centre in Kasoa involved armed men disrupting the exercise, causing pandemonium, scuffles, and the firing of warning shots.
Electoral Commission officials fled the scene, and three motorbikes were reportedly burnt during the mayhem. The incident has raised concerns about the security and integrity of the ongoing voters registration process.
