The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Minority has urged the Government to release the full KPMG report on SML (Small and Marginalized Licensees) and present it before Parliament. In a statement issued by Mr. Isaac Adongo, the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, the Minority expressed concerns over alleged attempts to obscure facts and adopt a lenient approach towards the SML deal.
According to Mr. Adongo, the recent allegations against the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) regarding its contractual agreement with SML for revenue assurance services without adhering to procurement regulations are alarming. He emphasized the need for transparency in the investigation process to ensure compliance with the Public Procurement Act and value-for-money audit.
Highlighting the concerns raised during the budget hearing, Mr. Adongo pointed out that the procurement of KPMG had specific objectives aimed at distorting allegations, concealing facts, and facilitating a seamless transition to the renewed agreement. He questioned the terms of reference of KPMG's mandate and whether it included establishing compliance with procurement and financial management acts, as well as assessing value for money.
Mr. Adongo emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for any breaches in the procurement process and ensuring that public funds are not misappropriated. He called for strict adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks to maintain trust and confidence among stakeholders.
In conclusion, Mr. Adongo reiterated the NDC Minority's commitment to uncovering corruption and ensuring accountability in government dealings, promising to provide further details on alleged corruption-laden digitalization schemes soon.
