The Ministry of National Security has embarked on an extensive public education campaign titled “See Something, Say Something” in various Senior High Schools (SHSs) and public institutions across the Western Region.
The nationwide initiative aims to empower citizens to remain vigilant and report any activities that may pose a threat to the peace and stability of the country.
Among the institutions visited were ArchBishop Porter Girls' SHS, Fijai SHS, Adiembra SHS, and St. John's SHS, as well as the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA).
Mrs Akosua Danquah Ntim Sekyere, Coordinator for the Campaign, emphasized the importance of heightened awareness, especially in light of recent acts of insurgency and terrorism in neighbouring countries. She urged students to report any individuals exhibiting suspicious behaviour, emphasizing their role in maintaining peace and security.
Mrs Sekyere also called upon management and staff at the GMA to remain vigilant in safeguarding the country's territorial integrity, particularly against sea piracy prevalent in the West African sub-region. She urged them to collaborate with coastal communities to identify and clamp down on perpetrators.
Mr Kester Osei, an official with the campaign team, highlighted the necessity for proactive measures to protect Ghana's borders, even though the country has not experienced any attacks. He stressed that authorities cannot afford to be complacent in the face of potential threats.
Engineer Mike Nunoo, Director at the GMA, commended the initiative, describing it as a crucial step in the right direction. He urged swift action on reported incidents to instil confidence in informants and deter criminal activities.
Mr. Abdul-Mumin Issah, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, affirmed the Assembly's commitment to collaborate with National Security in addressing individuals with dubious character and potential threats to national peace.
The “See Something, Say Something” campaign serves as a proactive measure to empower citizens and institutions in safeguarding Ghana's peace and stability in the face of emerging security challenges.
