The Central Committee of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has reaffirmed the removal of Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah and eight other national executives from office. In a press conference held in Kumasi, led by Alhaji Ali Adamu, the Committee dismissed attempts to discredit the decision by the former Chairperson and emphasized that the removal remained unchanged.
The Committee clarified that a recent court decision raised concerns over the capacity of the Interim Committee to represent the party in court, but it did not invalidate the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to ask the national executives to step aside on December 5, 2023. Alhaji Adamu asserted that the appointment of the legal committee to represent the party in court rectified any issues regarding capacity raised by the court.
Furthermore, Alhaji Adamu highlighted that in the absence of the National Executives, an Interim Council was formed and accepted as the caretaker body to oversee the party's affairs until congress. The Central Committee assured that both the Central and Interim Committees were diligently following the timetable adopted by NEC and were committed to advancing the party's agenda, despite alleged attempts by the former Chairperson to disrupt the process.
The Committee concluded by stating its full support for the Interim Committee and its determination to take legal action against anyone attempting to obstruct the election process for the party's flagbearer.
