In a surprising twist of events, former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has lauded Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, as the true hero and winner of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) recent presidential primaries.
Kennedy Agyapong secured the second position in the November 4th election, garnering 37.41% of all votes cast. In contrast, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led the election with 61.43% of the votes.
However, Amidu's perspective is that considering the numerous odds stacked against Kennedy Agyapong, his ability to attain 37.41% of the votes was a remarkable achievement.
Amidu noted that if the electoral process had been impartial, Kennedy Agyapong would have had a significant chance of emerging as the winner.
He highlighted the challenges Agyapong faced, including vilification by the presidency, ministers of state, the majority of his colleagues in parliament, and other public and party officials.
“The real hero and winner of the 4 November 2023 presidential contest was Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who, against all odds, secured a clean 37.41% of the votes and won only two regions out of the sixteen regions of Ghana,” Martin Amidu remarked.
Amidu further praised Kennedy Agyapong's sportsmanship and generosity in conceding defeat and appearing to cooperate, even in the face of a flawed process.
He suggested that Kennedy Agyapong's willingness to participate in an imperfect process, hoping for a miracle, deserves admiration, especially when contrasted with others who might have taken a different stance.
