Joyce Bawa Mogtari, former President John Dramani Mahama's Special Aide, has raised concerns over the government's lack of response to the scandal involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.
Mogtari took to Twitter to express her doubts about the government's respect for the Ghanaian people in the face of ongoing silence on the issue.
In her tweet on August 12, Mogtari criticized the government, suggesting that its failure to address the Cecilia Dapaah scandal implies a loss in the fight against corruption. She highlighted that any government genuinely committed to fighting corruption would have publicly addressed the matter.
She also expressed astonishment at the situation, particularly regarding the substantial sums of money found in the former minister's accounts without a clear explanation for their source.
Mogtari's remarks come after reports from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revealed significant sums of money in the frozen bank accounts of Cecilia Abena Dapaah. The amounts included $5 million, GH¢48 million, GH¢1 million in investments, and GH¢700,000 in cash, along with the discovery of $590,000 and ¢2,730,000 in cash during a search at her residence.
Cecilia Dapaah was arrested by the OSP on July 26 after allegations of theft from her home emerged. Her bank accounts have been frozen, and the OSP continues its investigations into the matter.
