The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) could potentially face legal consequences if it is confirmed that its officers leaked sensitive bank information pertaining to former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.
Dapaah's resignation last month, prompted by the alleged theft of significant sums from her residence, has raised concerns about information leaks from the OSP.
Media outlets have reported that a probe conducted by OSP officers at Dapaah's Abelemkpe residence led to the discovery of US$590,000 and GH₵2.73 million. The OSP, however, refuted these claims and urged the public to dismiss such reports.
In a tweet, the OSP clarified, “The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has not disclosed or revealed any information or details in respect of the bank accounts of Cecilia Abena Dapaah.”
Legal expert Oscar Asante-Nnuro commented on the situation during the Asaase Breakfast Show, emphasizing the potential implications of the alleged leak.
Asante-Nnuro stated, “Of course, there are legal implications, because if it turns out that it was orchestrated by the OSP, then they cannot play the ostrich by coming back to debunk all those media speculations.”
He highlighted the OSP's unique responsibility to uphold professionalism and integrity, considering its special status. Asante-Nnuro asserted that if the leak is indeed traced back to the OSP, it could have significant legal ramifications.
