“On their way to Const. Enkson's barracks, they were attacked by unknown assailants and the policewoman was shot in the groin.”

Information reaching The Ghanaian Standard indicates that the late Constable Regina Angenu was rushed to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital but died while receiving treatment.

In another incident at Daduri, a suburb of the town, unknown gunmen also sporadically shot at a  currency trading spot killing two people.

After the incident, the victims were rushed to healthcare facilities for treatment.

The rest were sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, and Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

Bawku conflict

Some time ago, the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) banned the riding of motorbikes by both sexes in the Bawku Municipality.

The wearing of smock was also banned where authorities indicated that the natives hid ammunition in them.

In a press statement signed by the Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, the Regional Co-ordinating Council noted that its directive stems from the volatile nature of security in the locale.

This violence comes after attempts to perform the final funeral rites of a Chief.
