Baba Sadiq, the 2024 NDC parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central in the Greater Accra region, has criticized the conduct of the Mile 7 police patrol unit, alleging that they unlawfully target young people in the community.
In a post on Wednesday, April 24, Baba Sadiq expressed concern over what he described as the patrol team's bad reputation for engaging in unlawful arrests, extortion, intimidation, and other lawless acts. He claimed to have gathered narratives from youth affected by the alleged misconduct.
Pointing to a specific incident, Baba Sadiq recounted a disturbing event that reportedly occurred earlier that morning. According to his account, a police patrol vehicle, believed to be from the Mile 7 Police station, was involved in an incident with a young man named Khaled Iddris, leaving him severely injured.
Expressing condemnation for what he described as the “intentional killing” of “hardworking young citizens” by those entrusted with protecting them, Baba Sadiq called on authorities to thoroughly investigate both Iddris' death and the alleged misconduct of the patrol team.
The call for an investigation comes amidst growing concerns over the conduct of law enforcement agencies and their interactions with citizens, particularly young people, in communities across the country.
