A group of Awoshie Mangoase residents in Accra took to the streets on Monday, blocking the main Awoshie highway in protest against the perceived frequent accidents involving pedestrians on the Awoshie to Pokuase highway.
The protest unfolded after yet another pedestrian was reportedly knocked down on Monday morning. In response, a police team intervened, detaining around 15 individuals for participating in an unlawful assembly.
The demonstrators asserted that a staggering 45 pedestrians had been involved in accidents along that stretch over the past year.
Speaking to Citi FM, some protesters called for the implementation of speed ramps and the repair of malfunctioning traffic lights along the hazardous route.

Expressing their frustration, one protester emphasized, “Since January 2024, about 45 people have been knocked down in this area, they have just killed someone this morning, and they have refused to give us a permit after a series of calls.”
The community's concern over pedestrian safety has escalated to this public demonstration, urging authorities to address the recurring accidents promptly.
