During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra, Mr Alexander Kwasi Acquah, Deputy Health Minister-Designate, proposed the establishment of clinics at marketplaces to enhance access to healthcare services.
Mr Acquah, also the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda and an investor in hospitals and mortuaries, emphasized the importance of bringing healthcare services closer to the people. He suggested that setting up clinics in various markets would encourage individuals to prioritize their health by providing convenient access to medical care.
Speaking during the vetting session, Mr Acquah highlighted the potential partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Local Government to realize this initiative. He expressed his readiness to work closely with his Minister to implement policies aimed at enhancing private participation in healthcare delivery.
Reflecting on his experience in the private healthcare sector, Mr Acquah acknowledged both the challenges and rewards of running hospitals. He emphasized the significance of initial capital investment in hospital setup but noted that with perseverance, his facilities were able to break even within seven years.
Mr Acquah revealed that he has successfully established five hospitals and four mortuaries, strategically located in regions including the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions. These facilities aim to serve their respective communities while contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare services across the country.
