A potential clash between supporters of Mr Opare Ansah, former Suhum Member of Parliament, and the Central North Police Command was averted following the timely intervention of the police.
Tensions flared when Mr. Ansah arrived at the Pentecost Worship Centre in Assin Fosu, a polling station where Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Aspirant, had cast his vote.
Mr Ansah's presence created a near pandemonium, and a scuffle ensued between Mr Agyapong's supporters and the police.
During the commotion, four gunshots were fired between Mr. Ansah's team and the police.
The former MP's team eventually fled the scene amid disapproving jeers from the onlookers.
Mr Ansah was allegedly challenged by Mr Agyapong to meet at the Pentecost Worship polling centre, and he daringly accepted the challenge. He arrived at the centre just minutes before the end of the voting exercise.
However, delegates gathered at the centre's entrance to prevent him from entering, leading to a tense confrontation.
