Dr Rasheed Draman, the Executive Director of the Africa Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), has criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to consult the Majority Caucus before disclosing plans to reshuffle its leadership.
Reports surfaced indicating that Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, was being considered to replace Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader. However, this decision was later halted for further consultations.
The announcement of the potential reshuffle has sparked divisions within the Majority Caucus, with some members supporting the move while others oppose it.
During an appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Dr Draman expressed his concerns over the development and criticized the treatment of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu by the NPP leadership.
He emphasized the importance of consulting key stakeholders within the party before making such decisions, stating that proper consultations could have prevented the current discord.
Dr. Draman highlighted the need for unity within the party, especially as Ghana approaches the December general elections. He suggested that the NPP leadership should prioritize unity and engage in meaningful discussions with the Caucus to address any concerns regarding leadership changes.
He also cautioned against blaming the media for the situation, emphasizing that the responsibility lies with the party leadership to ensure transparency and inclusivity in decision-making processes.
Dr. Draman concluded by urging the NPP leadership to learn from past experiences and prioritize unity within the party to achieve success in the upcoming elections.
