IMANI Africa's Vice President, Bright Simons, has raised questions regarding actress Yvonne Nelson's recent call for a protest against the worsening power outages in Ghana.
In response to Yvonne Nelson's statement on social media urging IMANI to mobilize another vigil, Simons pointed out that Ms Nelson has not previously amplified IMANI's work on issues such as Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) matters, gas value chain issues, power tariff proposals, or Independent Power Producer (IPP) debt buildup.
Yvonne Nelson's statement came on Monday, where she expressed anticipation for IMANI's outreach, reminiscent of their collaboration in organizing the #DumsorMustStop protest back in 2015 against the John Mahama administration.
The recent call for protest follows power outages in Ghana, with residents in the Ashanti region organizing a nighttime vigil in Kumasi on April 17, 2024. The vigil aimed to address the challenges posed by the erratic power supply, with hundreds of protesters expressing discontent with the unpredictable blackouts.
