Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia marked a significant milestone on Wednesday as he ceremoniously broke ground for the construction of a 200-bed capacity hostel at the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra. The four-storey multi-purpose facility, slated for completion within 14 months, is set to address accommodation challenges faced by students. Funding for the project is sourced from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Office of the Vice President.
The event, which fulfilled a promise made by Vice President Bawumia during the seminary's 76th congregation two years ago, underscores the government's commitment to supporting institutions that foster values and moral education. Dr. Bawumia emphasized the pivotal role of the hostel in providing conducive accommodation for pastoral trainees while promoting learning and character development.
Highlighting the importance of values in national development, Vice President Bawumia expressed his vision for a Ghana where emphasis is placed on righteousness and ethical conduct. He emphasized the need for collaboration between government, faith-based organizations, and the church, proposing incentives to encourage their active participation in societal development initiatives.
Dr. Bawumia's remarks resonated with the sentiments of stakeholders present at the ceremony, including Dr. Richard Ampofo Boadu, Administrator of GETFund, and Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC. Both emphasized the collective responsibility in addressing the financing challenges within Ghana's tertiary education sector and encouraged innovative approaches to resource mobilization.
The initiative received commendation from the Very Rev. Prof J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, who lauded the partnership between the seminary, government, and funding agencies. He expressed confidence that the new hostel facility would not only alleviate the housing deficit but also inspire the seminary to enhance its services, further strengthening its relationship with the government.
As construction commences on the hostel project, stakeholders look forward with optimism to the day when the facility stands as a testament to collective vision and determination, serving as a hub for academic excellence and moral development at the Trinity Theological Seminary.
