The Jasikan Municipal Police Command in the Oti Region has apprehended Bless Agbenyenu, a teacher, on charges of impersonating Mr. Yao Gomado, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency.
The suspect, taken into custody on Monday, January 15, allegedly created a Facebook account using the legislator's name.
Mr. Emmanuel Klu, a Personal Assistant to the MP, reported that five victims have provided witness statements.
More individuals from Asato and Dodo-Amanfrom communities in the Kadjebi District are expected to submit their statements on Tuesday, January 16.
A press release signed by Mr. Musah Mohammed, the Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Akan Constituency, highlighted the unauthorized use of Mr. Gomado's identity on social media, particularly on Facebook.
The imposter engaged in deceptive activities, posing a risk of financial loss to unsuspecting individuals.
The release urged potential victims of this fraudulent scheme to come forward and report their experiences to the police.
It also reminded the public to exercise caution, verifying the authenticity of online interactions, especially in matters involving financial transactions.
