The (TTH) has initiated a free cataract surgery campaign aimed at assisting more than 500 patients from various communities in the . This five-day program, which commenced on February 19, is a part of the Hospital's 50th Anniversary celebrations and is conducted in collaboration with the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP), an American Non-Governmental Organisation.

Dr Gilbert Bonsaana, an Ophthalmologist at TTH, highlighted that over 1,000 patients underwent screening for cataracts and other eye ailments in the weeks leading up to the surgery. Cataract, being one of the most prevalent causes of preventable blindness globally, was given priority due to its widespread occurrence. He emphasized that addressing cataracts could significantly alleviate the burden of the disease.

Dr. Bonsaana assured that the patients would receive regular post-surgery check-ups to monitor their recovery. While acknowledging the potential for complications in any surgical procedure, he affirmed the team's commitment to ensuring the patient's well-being.

Mr Zubeiru Aliu, the Public Relations Officer, outlined that the HCP provided essential equipment to support the medical team in carrying out the surgeries.

Mr Lloyd Gyebi, one of the beneficiaries of the free surgery, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to undergo the procedure without financial burden.
