The Ashanti Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has intensified efforts to increase public awareness of the ‘My NHIS App' and its benefits, targeting officers of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Prisons Service in Kumasi.
Led by the Regional Director, Mr. Kwadwo Dwomoh, NHIA staff conducted a float through the central business district, concluding at the Kumasi Central Prison and the Regional Police Command. During the outreach, they educated the public on the benefits of the app, emphasizing its convenience in accessing membership services from any location.
Mr. Dwomoh highlighted the app's innovation in providing accessible services to clients and emphasized the need for public awareness as the NHIA commemorates its 20th anniversary. The app allows users to renew their NHIS card and register as new applicants without visiting NHIA offices.
Explaining the app's functionality, Mr. Dwomoh mentioned its synchronization with the Ghana card. Users can enter their details, including Ghana card numbers, to generate a virtual card. Health facilities are equipped to verify a Ghana cardholder's active NHIS membership.
“Some members of the public are already using the app to access healthcare, but we want to scale up patronage as part of activities marking our 20th anniversary,” Mr. Dwomoh stated.
Security personnel, grateful for the NHIA's efforts, praised the accessibility the app offers to NHIS services, with some experiencing it for the first time. The NHIA aims to enhance app utilization and extend its benefits to a broader audience.
