Koforidua Technical University (KTU) is ushering in a new era with the appointment of Professor John Owusu as its Vice-Chancellor, alongside other key officers, marking a significant milestone in the institution's journey of growth and development.
Joining Professor Owusu in leadership roles are Reverend Prince Baffour-Ofori as the Director of Finance, Ms. Evelyn Fafa Adom as the Registrar, and Professor Richard Ohene Asiedu as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor. These appointments signal a fresh chapter for KTU, with a focus on fostering academic and research excellence.
The investiture of the Vice-Chancellor and the induction of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Director of Finance were conducted by Professor Samuel Obeng Apori, Chairman of KTU's Governing Council. The ceremonies were marked by symbolic gestures, emphasizing the importance of these roles in steering the university forward.
Addressing the occasion, Professor Yayra Dzakadzie, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, stressed the values of integrity, excellence, inclusivity, and service within academic communities. He urged the new officers to uphold these principles, fostering a culture of academic integrity and collaboration.
Professor Dzakadzie highlighted the Commission's commitment to improving Ghana's educational landscape, aiming to establish a world-class tertiary education system. He emphasized the role of institutions like KTU in achieving this vision.
In his remarks, the new Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead KTU and called for support from the Governing Council and university staff in effectively managing the institution's affairs.
Founded in 1997 as a polytechnic in the Eastern Region, KTU transitioned into a technical university on September 1, 2016, following the enactment of the Technical University Act 2016 (Act 922). The university offers a diverse range of educational opportunities, including Bachelor of Technology programs, Higher National Diploma (HND) programs, and tertiary diploma programs.
With the new leadership in place, KTU is poised to continue its mission of providing quality education and contributing to Ghana's development through innovation and expertise.
