The Government, in collaboration with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the family of the late Krachi East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Bernard Aborkugya Mensah, has announced the funeral arrangements.
The final funeral rites for Mr. Mensah will be held at the Dambai Community One residence from Friday, May 10, to Saturday, May 11, 2024. A thanksgiving service will follow on Sunday, May 12.
Mr. Christian Domeakor, a family member, confirmed the funeral dates to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) following the one-week observance held on April 17 at the English Arabic School park in Dambai.
Mr. Gyamfi Boateng, the constituency chairman of the NPP, extended the period of mourning and the lowering of the party's flags until after the funeral. He also announced that the road leading to the MCE's residence would be adorned with red and black colours, as well as the national flag, to signify the loss of a great leader.
This marks the second time the Municipality has lost two MCEs while in office, highlighting the significance of the occasion. The event is expected to attract Ghanaians from all walks of life, including government officials from Accra and surrounding towns, who will gather to pay their last respects to the late MCE.
