The National Theatre, in collaboration with its resident groups – The National Drama Company, The National Dance Company, and The National Symphony Orchestra, all under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, is set to mesmerize audiences with another captivating drama titled “A Woman's Instinct” on March 15th and 16th.
Based on a true story, “A Woman's Instinct” delves into the life of Adwoa Amissah, a young woman from Cape Coast in the early nineteenth century, who tragically took her own life in dramatic circumstances. Adwoa Amissah, described as the epitome of charm and desirability, had set a condition for marriage – only a man capable of ousting the whites from the castle and their land at Cape Coast would win her hand.
The storyline unfolds with the suicide of a suitor, leading to Adwoa Amissah's own tragic end, as dictated by local law. The production promises to be a gripping portrayal of this legendary tale through dramatic sketches, narrations, and traditional and choreographed dances, all accompanied by classical Ghanaian music, creating a rich and immersive theatrical experience.
Starring seasoned actors and actresses such as David Dontoh, Abi Adatsi, Edinam Atatsi, Mawuli Semevo, and Gadede Segbefia, “A Woman's Instinct” is produced and directed by Abeiku Sagoe, a master playwright and international award winner, along with co-producer Wakefield Ackuaku.
Audiences can catch this captivating production at the National Theatre with shows scheduled at 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm each day. Tickets are priced at GH₵200.00, offering theater enthusiasts an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural and historical narrative presented on stage.
