The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has launched a manhunt for approximately 20 armed assailants who attacked and robbed the Akroma Gold Mining Company in Esaase, located within the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region. The perpetrators, heavily armed and reportedly overpowering the company's security, targeted the processing area and proceeded to assault and injure several workers, including expatriates.
During the attack, the armed men made off with undisclosed quantities of gold bars before fleeing the scene, evading apprehension by law enforcement. The injured workers, some sustaining gunshot wounds, were promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Frederick Obeng Somuah, the Head of Human Resources at the company, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that management is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. While the exact extent of the damage and the items stolen are still being determined, Somuah expressed relief that no fatalities were reported among the company's personnel.
Efforts by the police, from the regional to the district level, are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The company remains hopeful that the investigation will yield results, leading to the swift apprehension of those responsible for the brazen attack and robbery.
