Tamale‘s Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium is set to kick off the 11th edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human on May 11, 2024. The event will feature the 100-meter dash for boys and girls in three age categories: under 15, under 18, and adults over 18 years old.
Following the opening event, the competition will move to Cape Coast Stadium on May 25, then to Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium on June 15, and will culminate at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra on June 29.
Renowned sprinters Ohene Karikari, Oko Addy, and Mike Ahey serve as living inspirations to young athletes and were honoured during the launch of the 2024 edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human last Monday.
Mr. Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports, who spearheaded the launch of the Olympic year edition, expressed hopes that more athletes would qualify for the Olympic Games. He also recognized the contribution of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human in developing athletes, citing their participation in the last African Games.
Dr. Kwame Baah Nuakoh, GM Strategy & Investments of GNPC, emphasized the passion Ghanaians have for track and field, justifying the company’s support in discovering and nurturing talents, many of whom become international stars. He also advocated for the promotion of sports at the tertiary level.
Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President of Ghana, commended the private sector’s involvement in sports talent discovery and harnessing, underscoring its importance in national development.
