The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Bayer AG have initiated the “Real Men ACT” campaign, aiming to raise awareness about the early detection of prostate cancer and encourage proactive care.
The campaign, operating in eight districts in Accra, including Accra Metropolitan, Ayawaso East, Weija-Gbawe, Ga West, Shai Osudoku, Ashiaman, Kpone Katamanso, and Lekma, seeks to enhance knowledge about prostate cancer among men and various stakeholders.
“Real Men ACT” stands for Awareness of Signs, Symptoms, and Risk Factors of Prostate Cancer; Check for Prostate Cancer, and Receive Treatment.
A statement released to the Ghana News Agency outlined the campaign's objectives, emphasizing the importance of early detection and treatment. The target demographic is men aged 40 and above, encouraging regular screenings for prostate cancer.
The campaign incorporates free pop-up screenings, workshops, and health discussions on various media platforms.
Urologists actively participate in these discussions, dispelling myths and misinformation about the disease while advocating for early screening and testing at clinics or hospitals.
In the earlier editions held in Ayawaso East, Weija-Gbawe, and Ga West, 430 people actively participated, while over 100,000 individuals were engaged through social media on major platforms.
