A total of 72 individuals, including students, service personnel, and soldiers, collapsed during the 67th Independence Parade held at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Wednesday, March 6. The incident was attributed to severe dehydration resulting from the harsh weather conditions prevalent on the day.
The affected individuals, who endured prolonged exposure to the scorching sun, were reported to have suffered from dehydration, leading to their collapse. The harsh weather conditions during the parade were identified as a contributing factor.
Yakubu Amin Abukari, the northern regional boss of the Ghana Red Cross Society, who oversaw the paramedic staff responsible for providing first aid at the regional Independence Day parade, confirmed that all 72 individuals have been successfully resuscitated.
The parade, which saw the participation of students, service personnel, and soldiers, was attended by notable dignitaries, including the northern regional minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, and the mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu. Despite the challenges faced by some participants due to the weather conditions, the Independence Parade continued, showcasing the resilience of those involved in the celebration of Ghana's 67th Independence Day.
