Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, joined forces with the Mace-Hope Foundation to celebrate and show appreciation to the senior citizens in the constituency.
The purpose of the celebration, according to Mr Odamtten, was to care for and express love to the elderly by organizing festive activities and providing free health screenings to monitor their blood pressure, sugar levels, and other medical concerns.
Mr Odamtten revealed that approximately 150 senior citizens registered under the Mace-Hope Foundation receive regular care and support.
The annual celebration aims to bring joy to the faces of the elderly and less privileged individuals, acknowledging that they often require companionship and someone to listen to them.
The foundation, with the assistance of volunteers, attends to the needs of senior citizens on a regular basis, organizing medical screenings and other activities to bring them happiness.
“We aim to establish a connection between the younger generation and senior citizens in our constituency, sending volunteers their way to assist them in their activities,” added Mr Odamtten.
The Tema East Member of Parliament further disclosed that free National Health Insurance registrations have been provided for both children and adults in the constituency, even without a card.
Mrs Elizabeth Kabu, the Director of the Mace-Hope Foundation, emphasized that the foundation is a non-governmental organization dedicated to caring for and supporting women, vulnerable children, and the elderly in the community.
Volunteers from the foundation visit elderly individuals in their homes, providing healthcare services, covering their bills, and occasionally offering food.
The foundation has also sponsored the education of children in the community and provided care for others in orphanage homes.
Mrs Kabu expressed the foundation's vision to bring joy and hope to the elderly, assuring them that ageing does not mean losing everything.
She stated, “During this stage of life, they may feel weak, sad, and isolated due to their age. Therefore, the foundation is there to support them, take care of their medical needs, and encourage them that they are not alone in their journey.”
Mrs Kabu expressed her gratitude to MP Isaac Ashai Odamtten for his consistent participation in the celebration, which brings smiles to the faces of the elderly.
