Miss Benedicta Abbey, the only female aspirant vying for the position of Assembly member in Lower-Manya Krobo, has withdrawn from the race.
Ms. Abbey, who has served as a unit committee member for over a decade, intended to contest for the position of Assembly member for the Agormanya South Electoral area.
She cited personal reasons and party politics as the primary factors influencing her decision to step down from the race.
Ms Abbey expressed her readiness to leverage her years of experience in the unit committee for mobilizing community development but lamented the unfortunate necessity of her exit from the contest.
As the sole female aspirant among over 60 male contestants in the municipality, Ms Abbey was part of the 165 female aspirants competing with over 2000 men in the district-level elections in the Eastern Region.
The Lower-Manya Krobo Electoral Commission Director, Mr. Jonathan Okine, stated that his office has yet to officially receive notice of her withdrawal.
He clarified that while aspirants have the freedom to withdraw, they would still appear on the ballot due to the short notice of withdrawal.
