The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate, in partnership with the Community 25 Chapter of the Rotary Club, marked the 2023 Adolescent Week in Kokonpe, emphasizing the establishment of adolescent centers within health facilities for enhanced healthcare services.
Themed “Every Adolescent Counts in Accessible Healthcare for All,” the initiative aims to break barriers for adolescents seeking quality healthcare.
Dr. Priscilla Esther Biamah-Danquah, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Director for Health Services, stressed the Health Directorate's commitment to bringing healthcare services to the community.
She encouraged adolescents to openly discuss their health concerns with nurses, promoting an environment where quality care is paramount.
Dr. Biamah-Danquah acknowledged existing “adolescent corners” in local schools, where youth seek advice on health matters, and appealed to civil society organizations for support in furnishing these corners with administrative and record-keeping equipment.
Ms. Henrietta Agyeiwaa, an Adolescent Health Nurse at Kpone-Katamanso, highlighted the Municipal Adolescent Corner's goal of empowering adolescents to become self-reliant.
She addressed the prevalent issue of unwanted pregnancies among adolescents, emphasizing the importance of capacity-building to resist societal pressures.
“All stakeholders need to marshal resources to help protect the adolescents and overcome their challenges,” she urged, noting the Health Directorate's efforts to reduce teenage pregnancies.
Mr. Jonathan Biaku, President of the Community 25 Rotary Club, expressed the club's commitment to supporting the Health Directorate in promoting adolescent health.
He emphasized the need for community vigilance to safeguard youth from dangers, citing challenges such as poverty and social vices in the peri-urban municipality.
The event, chaired by Mr. Biaku, witnessed the participation of over 200 students from selected schools, engaging in activities like detergent making to develop practical skills for a brighter future.
