Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has been honored as the Best 2023 Regional PRO of the Year at the 4th Government Public Relations Excellence (GOPREX) Awards.
The award ceremony, held at the Ministry of Information's forecourt in December 2023, celebrated individuals and teams demonstrating outstanding communication skills, strategic thinking, and innovation in advancing government public relations.
Sponsored by the Volta River Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, Stratcom Africa, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the GOPREX Awards recognized Mr. Ankrah's exceptional contributions among other PROs nationwide.
Competing against counterparts from 16 regions, including prominent names like Godwin Anthony Nkunu, Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye, Tally Ansah Asiedu, and Yaa Boahema Intsiful, Mr. Ankrah's dedication to fostering transparency and effective communication stood out.
The AMA, in a statement, highlighted Mr. Ankrah's impressive track record in shaping the narrative of the AMA.
The statement commended his leadership in implementing successful communication campaigns through social media, community engagement programs, and strategic media relations, enhancing public awareness of critical issues like sanitation.
The event also recognized other PROs from various ministries, with awards such as Most Active Social Media PR of the Year 2023, Best Media Engagement Ministry of the Year, Best PRO of the Year, and Most PR-friendly Chief Director of the Year, 2023, presented to deserving recipients.
Mrs. Ethel Codjoe Amissah, the Head of the Public Relations Coordinating Division at the Information Services Department, delivered the keynote address, praising PROs for strengthening the government's public relations infrastructure.
She urged awardees to share impactful stories, acknowledge challenges, and actively combat misinformation, particularly in the lead-up to upcoming elections.
Mr. David Owusu Amoah, Acting Director of the Information Services Department, encouraged PROs to contribute actively to their institutions and the nation by promoting values and maintaining transparency.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Mr. Ankrah attributed the success to the collaborative efforts of the entire Public Affairs team at AMA, emphasizing the importance of transparent and accessible communication in building trust between the government and the public.
