The Embassy of Ghana in Washington D.C., in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority, has initiated the “Ghana Week in DC” in Accra, urging Ghanaians to participate in the outreach to display Ghana's vibrant culture.
The annual event in Washington D.C. aims to highlight various aspects of Ghana, including its tourism ecosystem, arts, culture, trade, investment opportunities, and football.
According to the organizers, the main focus of the week-long celebration will be a football match between one of Ghana's Premier League teams and DC United, with the goal of promoting Ghanaian tourism, culture, and sports.
The event is a collaborative effort involving the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Football Association (GFA), Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., City of DC, Mayor's Office, and PKB Enterprises.
Mr Jamil Maraby, Director of Marketing at the GFA, recognized the significant role of football in attracting attention and stated that the inclusion of football would enhance the prominence of the Ghana Week celebration.
He expressed the desire to establish the event as an annual occurrence that garners worldwide anticipation.
Mr Chares Opoku Mensah, Head of the Public Relations and Communications Division at GIPC, emphasized that the project would encompass various aspects of Ghanaian life, ranging from business, culture, arts, entertainment, and football.
He called upon all partners to support this year's “Ghana Week in DC,” emphasizing the importance of the initiative.
Mr. Paxton Baker, CEO of PKB Enterprises, added that using football as a centrepiece would also contribute to establishing Washington D.C. as a platform for showcasing talents emerging from Africa.
