Nana Osei Bonsu, a Senior Law Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Law at KAAF University College has mentioned the importance of transformational leadership in driving Ghana towards industrialization and economic self-reliance.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Osei Bonsu emphasized the necessity of moving away from the “Guggisberg economy,” which has characterized Ghana's reliance on exporting raw commodities to the Western world even 67 years after independence.
He highlighted a systemic issue wherein the Western world, intentionally withholds loans for building factories, perpetuating Ghana's dependency on exporting raw materials. To break free from this cycle, Ghana must emancipate itself from colonial structures designed to maintain reliance on the West.
Mr. Osei Bonsu stressed the pivotal role of transformational leaders who can spearhead industrialization by establishing more factories to promote local production. He advocated for a strategic approach to economic and developmental structures, focusing on one sector at a time rather than attempting simultaneous development across numerous sectors.
According to Mr. Osei Bonsu, this sequential approach is the most effective path towards Ghana's development. By systematically addressing sectors and fostering a culture of production, the country can ultimately achieve economic independence and prosperity.
