Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the newly appointed Finance Minister, visited Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the King of Akyem Abuakwa in the Eastern Region, seeking his support for ongoing efforts to ensure environmental sustainability in Ghana.
During the visit, Dr Amin Adam commended the Okyehene for his leadership in the fight against illegal mining and advocacy for environmental sustainability, both nationally and internationally. He emphasized the importance of the Okyehene's advocacy in advancing education on environmental sustainability.
Recognizing the Okyehene's pivotal role in environmental advocacy, Dr Amin Adam sought his support to bolster Ghana's commitment to environmental sustainability. He highlighted initiatives such as the Green Ghana campaign and Task Forces aimed at halting land and water degradation caused by illegal mining.
To further advance environmental education and sustainable development, Dr Amin Adam announced the resumption of funding disbursement for the establishment of the University for Environment and Sustainable Development, facilitated by the Exim Korea Bank.
In response, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin underscored the importance of education in promoting environmental sustainability and national development. He emphasized the significance of the government's Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program in providing educational opportunities for all Ghanaian children.
The Okyehene expressed confidence in the government's efforts to educate its citizens, affirming his support for initiatives like the Free SHS program. He stressed the importance of ensuring access to education for every child in Ghana, emphasizing its role in poverty alleviation and national development.
