Richard Oppong, 26, a mason, has been jailed for three years by a Circuit Court at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality of Bono Region for stealing a toolbox, water pump machine and a car battery.
Oppong pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea on two counts of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
Inspector Emmanuel Asare, the prosecutor told the court presided by Mr Samuel Djanie Kotey that the complainants are residents of Dormaa-Ahenkro while the convict also resided at Ahantrase, a suburb of Dormaa-Ahenkro.
He stated on Tuesday, June 14 this year at about 0900 hours, the complainant Salifu Adam detected his tools box which contained tools like ply, box spinner, 13 rings, HL, N ring spinner, 10 flat, star screwdriver, alloy key and saw blade which he used to repair motorbikes and tricycles had been stolen.
The prosecutor said the complainant and a witness arrested and brought the convict to the Police station because he (convict) boarded the witness' Bajaj tricycle and on reaching a section of the road, convict alighted and entered a nearby bush to bring out a toolbox and a bag suspected to be a stolen item.
The witness, therefore, delivered a message to the complainant who had informed him earlier about his missing tools box, Insp. Asare added.
Inspector Asare said convict, then a suspect was interrogated and admitted the offence during investigations and led the Police to retrieve the stolen items.
