The national boxing team, the Black Bombers, has kicked off their campaign at the ongoing African Games with an impressive performance, securing several spots in the medal zone.
Four Ghanaian boxers, namely Janet Acquah (48kg), Mohammed Aryeetey (48kg), Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey (51 kg), and Abubakar Kamoko (86 kg) have all clinched a place in the medal zone, guaranteeing at least a bronze medal in their respective weight categories.
In addition, six Ghanaian boxers, including Olympic-bronze medalist Samuel Takyi, have advanced to the quarterfinals in the men's light welterweight division.
While the Black Bombers celebrate their successes, other boxers such as Daniel Plange (92kg), Henry Malm (71kg), Joseph Commey (60kg), Amadu Mohammed (Bantamweight, 54 kg), and Abdul Walid Omar (57 kg) are aiming to secure a spot in the medal zone after a successful round of 16 bouts.
However, despite their efforts, some members of Team Ghana, including Adelaide Djabatey, Sarah Apew, Jonathan Tetteh, and Abdul Baki Adam, faced defeat in their respective bouts.
The highly anticipated medal ceremony for the boxing events is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
