At the commissioning of the Anwomaso branch and metering station in Kumasi, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, emphasized the significance of private sector engagement in Ghana's energy supply and distribution chain. He urged the government to focus on policy formulation and regulation, allowing the private sector to handle distribution and supply, thereby enhancing efficiency and attracting investments.
Genser Energy, the only private owner of a gas pipeline in Ghana, inaugurated its station, which will connect natural gas pipelines from Nyinahin to Anwomaso, facilitating supply to industries in the northern sector. Otumfuo Osei Tutu expressed concern over the struggle of state institutions in managing energy resources, suggesting that private sector involvement could attract investments and competent personnel, thereby creating job opportunities.
He advocated for privatizing entities like the Volta River Authority (VRA), GRIDCO, and the Electricity Company to improve management and financial viability. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, highlighted the potential of the pipeline to enhance industrialization in the northern sector.
Nana Osae Nyampong, Chairman of Genser Energy, affirmed the company's commitment to delivering energy solutions in Ghana and beyond. Genser Energy operates as an embedded power generation producer with over 200MW installed capacity and distributes natural gas through a network spanning over 420km. The company's pipeline network, divided into three phases, aims to provide reliable energy to energy-intensive industries.
