The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, in Kumasi, has been temporarily closed by the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The closure aims to ensure that the pitch remains in optimal condition for the upcoming match between Ghana and the Central African Republic next month.
Scheduled as the final Group E match of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the encounter between the Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, and their Central African Republic counterparts holds significant importance for both teams.
The Black Stars need to secure at least one point from this match to guarantee their qualification for the upcoming AFCON tournament.
Emmanuel Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the NSA, shared that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium‘s pitch will not host any sporting activities until after the crucial AFCON qualifier.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Appiah stated, “The Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch is closed for football and other sporting activities until the Ghana VS Central African Republic game on September 7.”
With preparations already underway, Coach Chris Hughton is set to announce the squad for the Ghana-Central African Republic match by the end of August.
The temporary closure of the stadium demonstrates the commitment of the National Sports Authority to ensuring that the playing field is in optimal condition for this high-stakes encounter.
