The Ghana Navy is set to conduct “Exercise Sea Lion” to assess the endurance and combat readiness of its ships, according to a press release issued by Major Andy Marteye on behalf of the Director General of the Department of Public Relations, Ghana Armed Forces.
Scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the exercise will primarily occur at sea and along the beaches of Aboadze and Shama within the operational jurisdiction of the Western Naval Command in the Western Region.
The main objective of Exercise Sea Lion is to evaluate the endurance and combat readiness of Ghana Navy ships in order to bolster maritime security efforts. It will also involve the participation of selected Ghana Navy ships, an Infantry platoon, and an aircraft from the Ghana Air Force.
As part of the exercise, two Ghana Navy ships will embark on a journey from the Tema Harbour, sailing along the Greenwich Meridian to the Equator for the Crossing of the Line ceremony, a traditional maritime ritual.
The flagging-off ceremony to commence the ships' journey is scheduled to take place at the Tema Harbour on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 3:00 pm.
Exercise Sea Lion underscores the Ghana Navy's commitment to ensuring maritime safety and security within Ghana's territorial waters and beyond.
