In a recent move, the Republic of Niger has introduced new directives impacting flights to and from Nigeria. These guidelines, effective immediately, lay out specific conditions for commercial air travel between the two nations.
The Republic of Niger now allows all national and international commercial flights, permitting operations from ground to unlimited altitude. However, this inclusivity does not extend to flights to or from Nigeria. Commercial flights passing over Nigerian airspace without making a landing are exempt from these restrictions, facilitating smooth overflight operations.
For compliance, aircraft operating within the Republic of Niger's airspace must maintain active ADS-B and/or RADAR transponders throughout their flight. Additionally, the Republic of Niger's airspace remains off-limits for military, operational, and special flights. Authorization from competent authorities is mandatory for any such flights, highlighting a stringent approval process.
This circular specifically addresses the Republic of Niger and Nigeria, emphasizing that it does not nullify any existing NOTAMs currently in force.
