The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of engaging in a cash-spraying campaign in the Assin North Constituency ahead of the upcoming by-elections on June 27th.
During an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM in Accra, Basintale claimed, “They are spraying cash in Assin North. People were taking T-shirts, and some were given an amount of money. They are proud of doing it, just like in Kumawu.”
According to Basintale, video evidence of these actions has been obtained and will be made public. He expressed concern about the situation, pointing out that after similar evidence was presented during the Kumawu by-election, the party was not invited to inquire into the matter.
Basintale further criticized the government for allegedly exploiting state resources for its own advantage without exercising caution.
He emphasized that such behavior is detrimental to the country's democracy and foreign relations, stating, “The only reason we are worried is what the foreign world will say about this, and we don't think this is safe for our democracy.”
The NDC's accusations highlight the ongoing tensions between political parties in the lead-up to the by-elections and raise concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in the Assin North Constituency.
