Women groups from various markets in the Kumasi metropolis have come together to donate GH¢ 220,000.00 in support of the ‘Heal the Komfo Anokye' project.
The generous donation was raised through special contributions from members of markets including Kejetia, Abinkyi, Central, Race Course, Bantama, and Suame.
Led by Nana Yaa Foriwaa, the Market Queen of Kejetia, the women presented a cheque for the donated amount to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on April 4, 2024. Accompanying Nana Yaa Foriwaa were Nana Kyeiwaa, the Market Queen from Bantama, and other members of the market women's association.
Nana Foriwaa expressed that the donation signifies their collective effort to support the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which serves as the primary referral facility in the middle belt of the country.
She commended the Asantehene for championing the cause to rehabilitate the hospital, emphasizing the importance of providing quality healthcare services, particularly for women who are often vulnerable in accessing healthcare.
Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive of KATH, received the cheque on behalf of the hospital. He extended his gratitude to the market women for their generous support and assured them that the hospital will continue to deliver quality healthcare services for the benefit of all.
