During the 67th Independence anniversary celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region, a military officer from the Ghana Air Force tragically lost his life after collapsing alongside 66 others during the parade.
Immediate medical attention was provided to the collapsed individuals by stationed doctors at the venue, and eight were subsequently transported to the Eastern Regional Hospital for further treatment. Regrettably, the health of the military officer deteriorated, resulting in his untimely demise.
Sources from both the Eastern Regional Hospital and the Regional Ambulance Service have confirmed the unfortunate incident. The Local Organizing Committee expressed deep sorrow over the loss and is actively working to inform the military high command.
In a separate incident during the 67th Independence Parade at the Tamale Jubilee Park, a total of 72 people, including students, service personnel, and soldiers, collapsed due to severe dehydration caused by harsh weather conditions. Standing for hours in the scorching sun led to their collapse.
Fortunately, all 72 individuals were resuscitated by paramedic staff, including the northern regional boss of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Yakubu Amin Abukari, who was tasked with rendering first aid at the regional Independence Day parade.
