The KGL Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Accra, has extended a helping hand to victims affected by last year's spillage of the Akosombo Dam in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region. The foundation's generous donation of relief items aims to alleviate the challenges faced by those impacted by the disaster.
The donated items, which include bags of rice, weedicides, fertilizers, safety boats, and medical equipment for the Keta Municipal Hospital, were handed over to Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta, during a ceremony.
Mr. Nii Sapei, Programmes Manager of the KGL Foundation, emphasized the organization's commitment to supporting communities in need. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he highlighted the importance of providing assistance to flood victims, particularly those who have not yet received aid.
“Keta Municipality is dear to our heart,” Mr. Nii Sapei stated, adding that the foundation responded to an appeal from local authorities, prompting their intervention to aid those affected.
Furthermore, Mr. Nii Sapei outlined the foundation's broader mission, which focuses on promoting grassroots initiatives and fostering dialogue between local community organizations. He emphasized the importance of empowering residents to spearhead projects within their communities for sustainable development.
“Our main corporate responsibility is nurturing youth potentials through sports, education, and women empowerment,” Mr. Nii Sapei reiterated, underscoring the foundation's commitment to holistic community development.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the residents, Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, the MCE of Keta, thanked the KGL Foundation for its timely support. He assured that the donated items would be distributed equitably and utilized for their intended purpose, benefiting those in need within the municipality.
In addition to the relief items, the KGL Foundation, in collaboration with the Keta Municipal Assembly, Keta Municipal Hospital, and the Keta Municipal Health Directorate, organized a health screening and blood donation exercise for residents. This initiative further underscores the foundation's dedication to promoting the well-being of the community members.
