Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, Head of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), emphasized the importance of increasing awareness about COVID-19 as the pandemic remains prevalent in society, contrary to misconceptions of its eradication.
In a video clip shared by UTV Ghana on Twitter, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano urged people to remain mindful of preventive measures for the disease. He stated, “COVID is not a disease that is gone. It has come to stay and that is something we must accept but rather protect ourselves from it.”
The country is currently conducting its 7th National COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise, aiming to immunize about one million individuals, as announced by the Ghana Health Service. The exercise, which began on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, is set to conclude on Sunday, July 23, 2023.
Out of the country’s population of over 30 million, 10 million people have been fully vaccinated, reflecting the progress of the vaccination campaign.
