Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, recently took part in the annual Buganu festival in Eswatini as part of her official visit to the Southern African kingdom.
The Buganu festival marks the harvest season of the Marula fruit, a significant staple used to produce the popular brew known as “Amarula.” The festival is one of the largest traditional celebrations in Africa and is overseen by King Mswati III, featuring over 30,000 female dancers representing Southern and West Africa.
As a special guest at the festival, Madam Botchwey was adorned in traditional Swazi attire, adding to the cultural significance of the event.
During her visit, the Minister held bilateral meetings with His Majesty Mswati III, the King of Eswatini, and Madam Pholile Dlamini-Shakantu, the Foreign Minister of Eswatini. Discussions centered on mutual bilateral and multilateral interests, with a focus on strengthening cooperation at both levels.
Madam Botchwey’s participation in the Buganu festival not only highlights Ghana’s diplomatic ties with Eswatini but also underscores the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation between nations in the region.
