Ghanaian Highlife music legend Kojo Antwi has announced his permanent retirement from performing at the National Theatre. Mr Kojo Antwi said this in a recent exclusive interview with Nana Adwoa Annan on Onua TV.
The iconic venue, which was once the main stage for his popular December 24 concert, will no longer host the legendary artist's performances.
Antwi expressed that while the National Theatre was a perfect fit for his concerts in the past, it no longer aligns with his current artistic aspirations.
Reflecting on the venue's charm in his early days, he acknowledged that the evolution of his artistry now demands a grander platform.
The former Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) emphasized the challenges faced in maintaining the National Theatre and stated, “The place has fallen short of a theatre… maintaining the place has become difficult for those who are handling the theatre… and me as an artist, I don't belong to a hall… I realized that the place wasn't helping me. But an artiste doesn't belong to a hall… All the things I did there were about God.”
