Benso Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, a comedian, has been granted bail after allegedly being involved in an accident where he knocked down a woman and two children at Kakraba Junction on the Kasoa-Nyanyano road.
Appearing before the District Court Kasoa Akweley, Funny Face was granted bail in the sum of GH¢120,000 with two sureties. He faces charges of careless and inconsiderate driving, as well as two counts of negligently causing harm. However, his plea has not been taken as investigations are ongoing.
According to the prosecution presented by Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo, the incident occurred on March 24, 2024, at around 7:50 pm when Boateng, driving a Hyundai Atos Private car, knocked down a pedestrian named Theresah Quaicoe and her two children, Elizabeth Turkson (about 5 years old) and Robi Turkson (about 1 year old), as they attempted to cross the road at Kakraba Junction.
Boateng lost control of the steering wheel during the incident, crashing head-on with a motorbike ridden by Sam Francis Kwesi Bible and Nicholas Ashong as the pillion rider. Quaicoe and Elizabeth Turkson were referred to Korle-Bu Hospital in Accra for further treatment, while Ashong was initially referred to Ridge Hospital but returned to Kasoa Community Clinic due to a shortage of beds.
Although four of the victims have been discharged, the elderly woman remains admitted due to surgery on her legs.
