Adonten Asona Royal family appeals to authorities over Chief installation dispute: Ghana News

The kingmakers of the Adonten Asona Royal family of Agona Swedru have urged the Central Regional and the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council to intervene in a dispute concerning the alleged imposition of a chief, stressing the need for peace and harmony.

Expressing their discontent at a news conference, Nana Kwesi Nyakoh Essah, head of the Adonte Asona family, vehemently opposed the purported installation of Nana Oduro Kwarteng I as the successor to the late Nana Kobena Botwe II.

He highlighted concerns about the eligibility of the purported chief, citing discrepancies in traditional customs and the absence of key ceremonial figures during the installation process.

Nana Nyakoh Essah emphasized the need for adherence to established customs and traditions in the selection and installation of chiefs, pointing out alleged violations and calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The dispute arose following the introduction of Nana Oduro Kwarteng to the Swedruman Council of Chiefs as the newly installed chief on January 18, 2024.

However, the Adonten Asona family contests his legitimacy, citing historical precedents and customary requirements.

Appealing to relevant authorities, Nana Nyako Essah stressed the family's commitment to peaceful resolution, urging intervention to prevent potential violence and ensure a fair and just outcome to the dispute.
